Also, I’ve noticed that if I don’t purge right away, the items I deleted disappear in a short time anyway. I have no control over when they will be permanently deleted. I’m using Outlook , which I know is old, but it works fine. Until recently my Outlook was configured with Outlook Connector, but with the switch to the new servers, I had to configure as an imap account to continue to get me hotmail in Outlook.
Kudos to you for this post. I have been installing and uninstalling office for the same reason. All my deleted items would not go away. I followed your instructions, they were good, no ambiguity. I did the ‘purge’ of my inbox after I marked the items I wanted to delete.
What had a line through it was then gone, and what did not was still there. If you have junk and delete emails, the system will put a line through it. If you switch to your inbox.. This ‘gets rid’ of the strikethrough emails in your inbox or sent items folders but still keeps them in your deleted items folder. To remove them from the deleted items folder, you’ll have to follow the purge instructions the other commenters provided. I just posted this suggested approach a couple of comments above.
