By accident I found out that if the computer is Shut down then when it is switched on again, any applications that were loaded prior to Shut down will automatically load after the computer is turned on. After taking Outlook out of Startup about a month ago it does automatically load again when the computer is switched on and the excessive disk activity has not been apparent.

I decided to see what occurs if I put it back in Startup and the problem returned. I removed it again and all appears OK again. I am speculating that maybe it is going into an eternal loop because it cannot open 2 instances of Outlook One automatically because it was loaded at Shut down and the other due to being in Startup. When Restart is used, the previously loaded programs do not auto reload when the computer restarts and therefore if Outlook is in Startup, only one instance loads and that is possibly the reason that the problem would go away after the Restarts and it would return again after I Shut down and turned on again.

Note that I have said it is speculation but it appears to be working fine without Outlook in Startup. I’ll provide the initial step for you to see if it actually helps you, if I hear back that it has, I’ll provide a couple more to complete the process.
